SS13 Footwear: Merrell Men's Rant Shoe & Salomon Kowloon Trainer

A couple of days of sunshine doesn't half put a spring in your step! And it's steps we're going to be focusing on in this little review. Two new arrivals in for Spring/Summer 2013, we have the Merrell Men's Rant Shoe and the Salomon Men's/Women's Kowloon Trainer.

First up let's have a wee look at the Merrell Men's Rant Shoe. A fresh new sports canvas shoe from Merrell, it's got a genuine summery vibe too it, with slick aesthetics and clean, sharp colourways (the Majolica Blue is already my favourite product colour of this year) it's a great option for day to day wear when out and about relaxing in the sunshine (fingers crossed). As mentioned above it's been constructed with a canvas and full grain leather upper and has been made with a lower cut, so it'll look ace in the sun with a pair of ankle type socks. It's Strobel construction offers the wearer good levels of flexibility and comfort on varying degrees of terrain.

Inside the shoe has a twill lining which has also been treated with an Aegis Antimicrobial Solution, helping to keep away any undesirable pongs, not that we're inferring anyone out there has smelly feet of course. The EVA removable footbed again adorns the Rant with extra stability. Other specs include a nylon moulded arch shank, Merrell Air Cushion in the heel for excellent shock absorption and down below there's a Merrell Sticky Rubber sole for some decent traction.

We've currently got the Rant in stock in three different colour options; Aluminium/Navy, Bracken and Majolica Blue.

Second up and like the Rant it's shiny and new for us this season, The Salomon Kowloon Trainer. It has a bit of the RX series look to it but this style has been made with a more active approach in mind. Fast and light is the name of the game with the Kowloon, making it ideal for slipping on and heading out for your morning run or a relaxing stroll. Going back to the weight of trainer itself for a moment, Salomon quote around 230g per shoe, but in reality it really does seem lighter, almost air like on your feet, but if you check out the sole there's still a healthy dose of underfoot protection and shock absorption, so you won't have any worries if you decide to mix your terrains up somewhat.

The upper of the Kowloon features; Anti Debris mesh, a protective toe cap, sensifit, quicklace system with a lace pocket to tidy them away. Moving on down to the outer sole the trainer packs in non marking Mountainlife contragrip, OS tendon, pronounced lugs for good traction along with a die cut EVA sockliner and molded EVA midsole for stability and comfort.

The Salomon Men's Kowloon Trainer comes in two colours; Black/Deep Blue/Bright Blue and Black/Bright Red. The women's version comes in a rather delightful Anemone Purple/Black/Fall Orange.
